The issue:
I noticed that changing the name of text components in the structure tree actually edits the text on the artboard, this becomes more troublesome when using icon fonts as seen in the attached screenshot.
Unable to rename text labels in "Structure tree"
2016.11.21 Subform release 6bdeabc
Making the text component name separate from the text content would be helpful. I think the role text plays is often more useful to know than what exactly the artboard text says.
This current behavior also prevents people from naming text layers based on the roles they play. Example 1, Example 2
Maybe use the text content as the name, unless the user renames it?
Thanks for the detailed use case and report @Benzo! We didn't consider icon fonts at all.
I also agree with you @norton that it's worth naming the text box with the intent, especially given that we have a variable text system.
@Ryan, you have any objections to changing the behavior as described above? It's something I should be able to get into the next release.
Okay, I talked w/ Ryan off the board and he's game for this change.
I've implemented and tested it, so it will appear in the next release.
Thanks again for the suggestion!
